TOBY REID, Founder & Chief Marketing Officer

Inspired by the notion that high-performance engineering and environmental responsibility need not be mutually exclusive in the world of specialty materials, Toby founded SOLEGEAR in 2006. He set about creating plastics that would offer additional end of life scenarios, such as biodegradability and water solubility, without the performance shortfalls these types of materials have traditionally shown.

In 2010, Toby identified an opportunity to bring seasoned executive leadership to the SOLEGEAR team, stepping into his current role of CMO as Ed Trueman assumed the position of CEO. In this capacity, Toby is responsible for marketing and commercialization of SOLEGEAR’s bioplastics, while also guiding the Company’s overall direction as Founder.

Toby brings a wealth of finance, sales & marketing, sustainability and technology commercialization skills to SOLEGEAR. Prior to his leadership at SOLEGEAR, Toby was an Investment Associate in Toronto, ON, at RBC Dominion Securities Inc., Canada’s largest investment dealer, from 1996 to 2000. From 2000 to 2005 he was Web Merchandise Manager for Canada’s largest outdoor equipment supplier, Mountain Equipment Co-op. Toby served as SOLEGEAR’s CEO from 2006 to 2010, during which time he was also Corporate Communications Manager at Naturally Advanced Technologies Inc., a publicly traded cleantech startup, from 2007 to 2008.

Born and raised in Toronto, Toby holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and Marketing from Dalhousie University.
